Tailscale add-on is out of date. How update?

I have two separate Home Assistant systems. I installed Tailscale on the first several months ago, and just installed the second one today (Tailscale on a brand new HA device). The Tailscale console shows both are running 1.80.0, and is telling me 1.86.2 is available for upgrade. But I can’t figure out how to upgrade them.

Some details:

  • Both my systems are HA Yellow, running the latest OS updates.
  • The HA Tailscale install I did today turned on App Connectors and Exit Node by default, even though the settings in the UI showed them as off. I had to toggle them on and back off to disable them.
  • The HA Tailscale add-on page for the node I installed several months ago shows an option for “Auto Update” (just above “Show in sidebar”), which is toggled on. The system I installed today does not have that option. But even though one system has this option and it’s turned on, it doesn’t seem to work.
  • Looking at the github page for the automation, I see that the “Dockerfile” was updated just 2 days ago from 1.86.0 to 1.86.2. I’m not sure if that means it’s available yet, but it implies the add-on is being actively maintained, and I’m way back on 1.80.0.

The addon version is 0.25 (Feb 25) which includes Tailscale 1.18.0.

The repo has a maintenance bot for the Tailscale version. So while the repo is updated there is not a release later than 0.25 which is Tailscale 1.18.0.

I think some/all of the settings which are default on may not show correctly if not in your config, meaning the display discrepency. Another setting like this Userspace networking mode.

Note sure what is going on there.

As for updates to the addon, looks like Frenck gets to it every so often.

Thank you @dcapslock. So I guess all is as expected.

Yes, unless you note any serious issues that would be included in a newer version of Tailscale and/or highly desired feature, best is to sit it out and wait. Otherwise submit an issue with reasons as why an update would be urgent.
