I bought some Tapo P125M for Christmas Lights. I’m trying to connect them on HA 2023.12.3.
Matter way fails for all of them, I tried a lot of times and a lot of configurations, but without success for any of them.
I can only install via the Tapo app and then use Tapo integration from GitHub - petretiandrea/home-assistant-tapo-p100: A custom integration to control Tapo devices from home assistant.. 2 of them are connected without problems, and 1 doesn’t want to connect, no matter how I configure it. IP address is correct, and Tapo ID and password are correct, I tried with experimental features to register the MAC address and without it.
My findings from googling and reading about these devices and adding 3 to my HA:
other posts indicate the cell phone adding the P125M in HA must also be on 2.4ghz and not 5ghz wifi. I disabled my 5ghz wifi to force my cell to be on 2.4ghz.
I found even being on 2.4ghz, it may/would still fail to add to HA. If I factory reset the p125m device (hold power button for 10 seconds) and then tried again, it would work correctly.
I got all 3 added to HA. I seem to be having stability issues with them going offline so I’m researching. I thought I’d add my 2 cents in case it is helpful to others to get them added.
Note: I have added a 4th. What I noticed is that at least two went into limbo after being added. I then factory reset and added them again and they seem stable. In googling for info, there was one bug report of a firmware update on the P125M that necessitated the devices to be readded to HA to get them working again. I’m not sure if I’m seeing an update overnight (I do have the Tapo app on my phone which does have a setting for doing overnight updates) that trips this issue. After a factory reset and readd, these seem stable so far.
I will say it is annoying to have to disable my 5ghz wifi to add these (forces my cell to 2.4ghz which the P125M are connected to). I hope that’s something in future HA updates that can be solved.
