Tasmota BIOS flashing question

Hi,

I’ve seen few videos that referenced flashing IoTs such as Sonoff switches with Tasmota. Incidentally all these articles and videos are little dated (~2018). I bought few Sonoff switches which worked great out of the box so not sure if Sonoff caught up with market demand or if I am missing out on any functionality.

So any pointers or tips on the subject would be helpful.
Thanks,

PS: I am not a huge fan of soldering but would do it if there are any tangible benefits for feature functionality.

The first Sonoff’s I flashed I did indeed solder. But now I just keep the Header pins in the hole, and flash without soldering. And the newest versions (e.g. Sonoff mini ) can be flashed OTA out of the box.

@francisp thanks for your feedback.

So what is the advantage of flashing BIOS? In few of the videos the rationale was connecting to MQTT but my Sonoff h/w connects to MQTT out of the box. Here is the link to the h/w that I bought and referenced in this thread - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078GDFYTY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks.

I did not know Sonoff connects to mqtt now. It did not when I flashed mine.
