Is it me or is setting up and adding Tasmota devices a PITA?
I’m new to this. Here is my process. If there’s an easier/quicker/more-efficient way, I’d love to hear it.
-
Install/Energize Tasmota device (I’m using wall light switches and dimmers)
-
Use smart phone to connect to device’s wifi (Tasmota-xxxxxx)
-
Smart phone’s browser will be directed to 192.168.4.1 which is the default IP address of the Tasmota device
-
Config device to connect to local wifi (device will reboot and have a local IP)
-
Go to the HA add-on Tasmoadmin and set the device’ MQTT server ip address, username, password; also change friendly name to something recognizable
5a) Alternative to 5: Browser to the device’s new local IP address and set same
- Device/Entities should now be available in HA for adding to cards/dashboard (possibly need to wait and/or restart)
Let me be clear: I love tech (just like all of you, I assume), and am blown away at and grateful for the power at our fingertips. I just think this process can be made easier. For example, in 9 months when I want to add another device and haven’t done it in 9 months, I’m going to have to remember all these steps.
