Tasmota Device Adding

Is it me or is setting up and adding Tasmota devices a PITA?

I’m new to this. Here is my process. If there’s an easier/quicker/more-efficient way, I’d love to hear it.

  1. Install/Energize Tasmota device (I’m using wall light switches and dimmers)

  2. Use smart phone to connect to device’s wifi (Tasmota-xxxxxx)

  3. Smart phone’s browser will be directed to 192.168.4.1 which is the default IP address of the Tasmota device

  4. Config device to connect to local wifi (device will reboot and have a local IP)

  5. Go to the HA add-on Tasmoadmin and set the device’ MQTT server ip address, username, password; also change friendly name to something recognizable

5a) Alternative to 5: Browser to the device’s new local IP address and set same

  1. Device/Entities should now be available in HA for adding to cards/dashboard (possibly need to wait and/or restart)

Let me be clear: I love tech (just like all of you, I assume), and am blown away at and grateful for the power at our fingertips. I just think this process can be made easier. For example, in 9 months when I want to add another device and haven’t done it in 9 months, I’m going to have to remember all these steps.

Yup. It’s not you.

It is not something you do every day.

Thanks guys!

Trying to add a second device. When through all the steps you described but does not show up in the Tasmota integration. What am I missing?

Make sure you have a unique friendly name and mqtt topic.
