Teckin light bulb

Hi All,

I’ve only been using Home Assistant for a short while, so I’m a bit of a noob. Forgive me if I’m asking noobish questions.

I’ve jumped over from HomeSeer, so I am not unfamiliar with home automation (loving Home Assistant over HomeSeer, by the way).

I’m looking at buying some Teckin smart wifi bulbs (Link here). I’ve been searching around to see if these bulbs can be flashed with Tasmota or some other firmware.

I’ve seen that there are other Teckin devices, such as the Teckin SP20, that have been flashed with Tasmota. Is it safe to assume these bulbs are also flashable?

Thank.

Welcome!

The Amazon description says “Even you are not at home, you can control your smart bulb on/off with your phone via Smart Life App”.

Pretty much anything that uses the Smart Life App is a tuya based device and can be converted to Tasmota / ESPHome / any custom firmware.

If fact, it appears ESPHome has this very bulb in their cookbook:

If you prefer Tasmota, you should be able to use the ESPHome YAML to setup a template in Tasmota.

Cheers!

One thing to be aware of is that Teckin, at least with the SP-20, is switching to a different wifi chip that cannot be flashed yet. I have a couple of the SP-20s with it. I would probably look into a different bulb just in case they are rolling this out system wide.

Thanks, being noobish, I’m going to do some looking at Tasmota vs ESPHome, just for my better understanding. I appreciate the response.
