Tesla integration not working

I’m on 2021.7.4 and experiencing the same problem. Location the Netherlands.

Mine actually stopped working a week ago or so, while I was still running 2021.7.4. I updated to the latest version a couple days ago, hoping it would be fixed, but it’s still not working. I’m in Missouri, by the way.

I am in the UK and my NodeRed setup has stopped. NodeRed should be unrelated to any HA version as it talks direct to the Tesla API. I suspect it is a Tesla regional issue – but this is just my guess.

I also turned back on the HA Tesla integration and it shows “Failed to set up: could not authenticate”

I think I remember this happening a few months ago and that was why I switched to NodeRed (but then both worked) but just stayed on it NodeRed as could so a lot more. I believe it fixed itself after a week, but again that is a guess.

I think the issue is reported here:

I’m in the same situation. I hadn’t checked in a few weeks, but even the basic integration is not working for me. It simply won’t authenticate. I’m in Australia, btw.

Same problem… stopped working a week ago or so. Updated to 2021.8.6 and still not working.

It is the Captcha introduced by Tesla. Beside the Home Assistant I also have a Homey and did the mistake to log out from the app and now cannot log in.

See other people from Athom’s forum having the same issue.

I think I found a fix:
Configuration->integration: Tesla_custom app shown in red “needs attention”. Follow prompts (“reconfiguration” I think) and eventually you will get to a Tesla-like login page. First attempt fails but a captcha appears. Second attempt led to the same thing but in a browser. 2 attempts appear to fail with a web page error but low and behold, the Tesla_custom app now appears to work again. YMMV

Do you mean you see a Captcha in the Home Assistant interface?

Yes. It comes up when you try to log in via the HA integration, like it did when you first used it. First there is a login (username, password) without a captcha. Entered those, then the same page came back but with a captcha. Entered again (with captcha), then the whole process started again but in a web browser (not HA).

I’d do it again with screen capture but I don’t want to risk it. If you don’t get the “needs attention” indication in HA, I would remove the integration and re-install it so you start from scratch.

Everything still working.

BTW, got this idea from what worked the last time Tesla seemed to require a captcha for a few days (May, 2021?)

I had already removed the integration. When installing it again, I do not get a page with a captcha, at least not in 3 attempts.

Maybe the captcha only appears when reconfiguring the already installed integration?

Are you using Tesla_custom?Screenshot 2021-08-13 09.39.48

Sorry, overlooked the part where you mentioned the custom integration.
I can confirm that the custom integration works! Will use that, for now at least.
Thanks!

Thanks, switching to tesla_custom has enabled me to re-integrate into HA.

I cannot add the custom repository. I just get this error:
Invalid Add-on repository!

The official integration just says “invalid login”.

Hi. I’m probably doing something very simple wrong and would really appreciate some help. I’ve installed the Tesla_custom repository in HACS, restarted HA … and can see in HACS the integration although it comes up as ‘Tesla’, with no mention of custom. If I check its information it has all the repository / information about Tesla_custom. Now I’ve gone across to Configuration → Integrations, clicked on ‘+ Add Integration’ and searched for Tesla. I don’t see the ‘Tesla Custom Integration’ as the instructions say I will, I only see the following ‘Tesla’, ‘Tesla Gateway’ and ‘Tesla Powerwall’. If I select the Tesla integration it asks for the e-mail and password which I’ve tried repeatedly and they always fail (same as the original core integration that started failing recently).

Please let me know what I’m doing wrong, possibilities that have come to mind are:

  • I’m doing something wrong with the installation and the ‘Tesla’ Integration I’m trying to configure is actually the core integration still.
  • I should have installed the dev branch of ‘Tesla Custom’ because maybe the fix for the captcha has only recently gone in and hasn’t found its way to main.

Any help much appreciated.

Not sure I can help. In an earlier post in this thread I discussed some of the instability issues I found surrounding HACS and other parts of HA.
I’m not sure what you are doing wrong, but it does sound like you have not disabled or removed the stock Tesla integration. Try removing everything and starting over, making sure there is no Tesla integration of any sort. One thing I do know is that the original Tesla_custom is sufficient for overcoming the captcha issue since (I believe that) the captcha is only required once, not every time the integration does a query.
Finally, if nothing else works, try using older versions of HACS and the core HA. Here’s what I’m using that definitely, consistently works:
Home Assistant Core
Version
core-2021.4.6

Operating System
Version
5.13

HACS
You are running version 1.12.3,

Tesla
You are running version v0.1.0

YYMV.

Could also be what i experienced: after adding the repository, it didn’t show up. Was told to do a hard refresh of the integration page (so a browser refresh of that page) > that made the integration show up for me in the integration page.

thanks @raoul.teeuwen - that is exactly what had happened. Thanks for passing on your advice!

I’m also in Texas and I cannot connect via the Official Tesla integration with or without MFA. I installed the HACS custom integration and after signing in with the CAPTCHA everything is working perfectly again
