Tesla Powerwall configuration error

I am trying to add the Tesla Powerwall integration into my HA.
I found the password inside the Backup Gateway.
When I tried to add integration by supplying the IP address and the password, it says “invalid authentication”.
I’ve also tried putting in the last 5 digits of the serial number but got the same error.

I accessed the webui, toggled the power switch and changed the installed password (it generated a new one) and used that password and it also does not work.

Has anyone come across this problem during their configuration before?

Thanks.

I don’t have a powerwall but use this for my car, which seems to support powerwall.

Thanks but I’m not comfortable with entering my Tesla account info on a third-party non Tesla app, despite what it says about not sharing / not storing etc.

Yet you will enter it into the built in integration. Odd.

Well, the official integration is by Tesla and I’m only entering the default password, which, if stolen, means someone has to come to my place to access the powerwall. I’m not providing my userid and password on the original integration.
Yes, I’m odd. So?

Not quite sure where you got that idea from.

There are at least two different Powerwall integrations:
Tesla Powerwall - Home Assistant which is local but only offers limited control
GitHub - alandtse/tesla: Tesla custom integration for Home Assistant. This requires a refresh token be generated by third-party apps to login. which goes via Tesla and needs an authentication token as described in the docs - provides more control though
Which integration are you using? I’ve installed both - can’t remember any probs

Good luck

He won’t use the custom integration, see above.

The password is the last five digits only of the password inside the Gateway.
You can test it using the web api in your browser and the customer not installer log on - click through the insecure warnings. If it works in the browser then integration should be ok.

Difficult to modify things once the integration is installed, I’d suggest get things working in the browser first. Delete the integration. Power cycle. Try again.

I’m using the Tesla Powerwall, not the custom integration.

Got it!

The exact wordings are “The default password is printed inside the Backup Gateway for newer models. For older models, the default password is the last five characters of the serial number for Backup Gateway and can be found in the Tesla app.”

Using the last 5 characters of the password worked.

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi,
how do you login to the tesla powerwall integration. in my case, the IP adress from my powerwall is not working. which ip adress do you use? when i try to login via browser, no login side is loading. do i need to configure something in my router (fritz box)? Thank you for help

If your Tesla Powerwall is connected to your wifi network correctly, its IP address will show up in your Fritz Box . Just use that IP address and enter into the Tesla Powerwall integration screen and enter the password. Note the password is the last 5 characters of the default password printed inside the Backup Gateway (for newer models). That was the part that stumped me because of the poor wording of the instructions.

I got Tesla powerwall connected to HA without problem. Now try to config Energy area in HA, I find the all sensor of current power cannot be find in drop down menu to enter. eg, try to add return to grid. The sensor is Home energy gate site power. However, it isn’t listed. Home Energy Gateway solar power that is used for soalr panels section is not listed either. It seems only accumulated figure sensor available for Energy config. Anyone has idea?

Anyone able to connect powerwalll 3? I am having issued because the Powerwall is the gateway.

What issues are you having?

Translation Error: The intl string context variable “error” was not provided to the string “An unknown error occurred: {error}”

I have 400a split service and 3 powerwalls 3s. One of the powerwall is the gateway. The gateway outside does not broadcast a TEG address. New tech. SO when I use the IP of the gateway and the last 5 of the password = no go. Last 5 of the PW on the outside gateway = no go.

Just realised you’ve used the last 5 characters of the PWs and no go.

Sorry, don’t know how to help you there.

I’m getting this message too when trying to log in to my Gateway 2 (behind which is a Powerwall 2).

I’ve tried the full password written on the label inside the Gateway cabinet, the last 5 digits of said password, and the last 5 digits of the Gateway serial number … same error message in all cases! :pensive:

Any thoughts?

Many thanks, David

EDIT: AHA! You have to use the password that you use to log in to the online portal – the one you’re presented with if you visit the IP address of your Backup Gateway / PowerWall in a web browser … it’s not logical at all, but I’m now in! :sunglasses: Hope this helps someone out there!
