Thank you for official app!

Hello,

YAY for official Android app. You secretive bunch of heroes you!

A little train of thoughts.

What do I expect from this app? Two things:

  1. Really Instant notifications
  2. Location tracking that makes Life360 look like snail with broken legs

Push Notifications
I have tried very many options for an Android phone to get notifications (Chrome with html5, Ariela with Firebase, Tasker with AutoRemote), all of them showing delays at some point.
I for example have very custom doorbell at the moment, heavily relying on push notifications to let me know someoneā€™s at the door requesting my delightful presence. Record in notification delay between pressing the button on the doors and getting notification on my phone is around 3 minutes. Absolutely no good.
So far Tasker is proving to be the most reliable solution, however having to create a profile / task for every specific notification I need is not clean solution at all.

Now, I have really high hopes for official HA app and push notifications.
However, the first issue that popped for me - I cannot turn on Push Notifications, I see this lovely message: "Requires SSL enabled for Frontend"
I have SSL enabled as far as I know, since Iā€™ve been dealing with html5 and other notification options for quite some time.

It may or may not have something to do with even trying to get logged in app:
"Unable to find your Home Assistant instance / Make sure your phone is connected to your home internet"
My phone is connected to my home internet, I made sure. Iā€™m logged in app via manual option.
It would be super appreciated if someone far smarter could help figure what to do here.

Location Tracking
I donā€™t know whatā€™s the progress on location tracking with this app, so I can only hope it will be absolutely brilliant, as all official HA things are!
As probably most of you, much of my automations are heavily presence dependent. Sooner system knows I am home / away, the better.

Team behind the app, thank you! I know it is incredible amount of work already done, and still more to come.
I appreciate your hard work and wish you all the best!

Hi marian, I also have the ā€œUnable to find your Home Assistant instance / Make sure your phone is connected to your home internetā€. I am connected to local wifi & browser on mobile (Samsung A70) connects ok to HA. I had to use the manual entry of HA URL ā€˜http://HA_IP_Address:8123/ā€™. Now the app is functioning, but also canā€™t enable Push Notifications :disappointed:

I also have the same problem on Samsung A50 and Huawei P20ā€¦ and must configure manually connection to HA.

I also have a connected doorbell. I am using telegram to send notifications. It takes between 1s and 5s in 99% of the cases. Whether I am at home or away. For a ā€œhomeā€ version only (I donā€™t want to open my mqtt broker on the Internet) MQTT is instantaneous.

Does the app only work if the mobile device is on the same network as HA?

If it works from the internet, how does it know itā€™s not ā€œhomeā€ and resolve the external IP address?

have I missed something? where do I find this app? i tried google play but there are so many options from so many people that I donā€™t know which is the official version.

No. It works just fine remotely, assuming you have your HA exposed to the internet.

It doesnā€™t. When you set it up, you give it your external URL

As @greengolfer said, Telegram works excellently, try that instead of waiting for native notification support

And pushover does so as well

Iā€™m amazed that a Android App finally exists, but I think that Lovelace, in general, is very heavy and unoptimized.

It lags like hell on my S7 Edge. Not fault of the App per se, but 'cause itā€™s also webbased. Basically a custom Chrome webbrowser with push notifications. Also when I use the Interface editor and want to add a entity to the entities card, it doesnā€™t add it, etc. Itā€™s kind a fiddly feeling.

But Iā€™m amazed nonetheless.

I hope that when the time comes, someone develops an (mobile) interface that is lighter than Lovelace.

Kinda offtopic if I think about it, but worth mentioningā€¦

Lovelace should always be displayed. All the other apps that do their own frontend donā€™t play nice with custom cards and donā€™t support everything. You WANT the app to be a webview so what you setup on desktop is also there on mobile. I do not have any lag at all on my phone so it could either be a custom card you have setup or something wrong with your phone causing the lag.

I think they are still working out kinks around all the editors too.

Have you looked at Ariela?

I agree with this. I want the same cards/views on any device I use HA on.
