I have always used the tool that backs up to Google Drive. It is simply amazing!
Whenever I need to, I download a copy of the backup and restore it on a clean installation on a virtual machine for testing. I have been doing this for over a year.
But now, with automatic (and mandatory) encryption, I can no longer restore the backups. The backup tool does not report any problems, does not generate an error log, but everything leads me to believe that the failure to restore is due to the fact that it cannot decrypt the backup encryption.
The tool has the option to generate a new encryption key but does NOT allow me to include this key so that I can recover my backups, it generates a new and arbitrary encryption.
One of two things needs to be done:
-
Either the tool allows me to disable encryption.
-
Or the tool allows me to enter my encryption key at the time of restoration.
As it is, it is simply preventing me from having a functionality that I already had before and in a safe way.
