Time to go operational

It took me a couple of year to experiment and it feels the right time to go operational and use automations for daily usage.

I have a bunch of z-wave: sensors, lights; multimedia devices, camera and so on.

I understand the concept and use of both automatons an node red bus still hanen’t decided witch way to go.

And above all I need to decide which operations to automate first.

I read a lot about the complex of room presence and the need to override an automations, like turn the light off even though an automaion says it should be on.

Any suggestion from where to start?
It should be clever enough and transparent so other people in the house will not want to kill me

  • start easy (f.e. turn on/off stuff when sun goes down)
  • keep it simple, doesn’t matter if it is automation or node-red (i use both, sometimes even working together)
  • use a system when naming automations/nodes, so it doesn’t get confusing when it get’s a lot… (f.e. start with name of the room and then device)

The rest will follow, i personally love motion enabled lights a lot, so my first guess would be them

I went with a simple and funny first automation:
I my wife keeps the wardrobe door open, a spoken reminder is telling her to shut the door
After she close the door there is a well done spoken notification.

Only thing is if she opens and close the door immediately, the notification says also the please close the door part, even though the door is already closed.

Use the current state node to check if the wardrobe door is still open before sending the close the door notification.
