Timer configuartion issues

Having issues with timer function.
I have set up timers in config.yaml file and I also have an automations file.
When I create an automation and call a service timer.start the timers set up in the config.yaml file do not appear as a drop down. I have added some screen shots.
What have I done wrong?

Another bit of info when I set up the timers under the config.yaml i had to change the”.” To a “_” as per the screen shot not sure whether this is causing the issue ie a mismatch
I think possibily the name of the timer is incorrect
between the config.yaml and the automations.yaml file
