To-do list behaviour change in 2024.1

I have a shopping list with several screens of items. The 2024.1 updates look great but the behaviour when checking/ unchecking an item had changed.

Now the highlight status with the item just changed. So when checking or unchecking several items at a time it is necessary to scroll all the way back to the opposite end of the list.

Not a problem with small lists but a real pain for a big list

exactly my issue too.
it’s really annoying that after you finish/check an item, that it jumps to the bottom of the list where all de discarded items are. and then you need to scroll all the way back up. search for where you were left. this is almost not usable like this!
nobody is interested in discarded items so why this change?!
also the new look is terrible. the only thing i asked for was to have multiple list and they have done that, which i’m thankful for. but after that they should never have touched it again because it was perfect, so don’t fix it if it aint broken right?!
so put the backup from the last version back please!

also the button to place items in a different order has changed.
first you could click that button directly, but now you need to click the 3 dots icon and then you can click it. also to exit it’s 2 click instead of one.
so all the changes in this version made everything worse, it really needs to be reverted!!!

Yeah, I second this. If you are using the to-do list as a shopping list (ironically, it was only a shopping list initially :slight_smile: ) all the changes from 2024.1 are making it worse:

  • you can’t click an item and edit it in-place, it opens up a popup so there are more clicks to change an item
  • spacing is much bigger between items, wasting space (this should be fixed whatever is your use case for todo lists)
  • the 3 dots, then “reorder items” button (which is the only button) doesnt really make sense

I understand that most of the changes were introduced because other people might want to use other lists for something else, but can we have a special type of list (Shopping list) which is “simpler”/the way it was before the changes? I dont need due dates on shopping lists(I guess thats where additional spacing between items is coming from) :slight_smile:

Can someone make a feature request if there are more of us? I dont know how to make that.

Or, can anyone sugest a simple addon (other than Grocy, I tried it and its much too complicated for my use case - a simple grocery list in HASS instead on a piece of paper)

Yes you can. I had this issue at first too, but only for the first shopping list. You need to edit the settings and select the right shopping list.

Which settings do I need to change? I have only one list at the moment…

Same issue for me, when I have ~ 40 items in the list and I check something and scrolls me to the bottom results in more frustration. Hope it is fixed soon, or put under a settings.

Can you elaborate on which settings do I need to change? Thanks!

it’s just the card settings, you know?
edit dashboard → edit shopping list card

like i said, you need to select the right shopping list entity.
that’s all…

Same. Bit frustrating when shopping and having to scroll back up every time I check something off.

I haven’t figured out how to make a feature request… Is this still called Shopping List?

Oh I agree, this behavior is so annoying

Anyone know if this can be changed?

I HATE THIS CHANGE!!

Or better yet just bring back to old shopping list UI. The new one is worse in every way. Can we just turn the old card into a custom card on HACS?

This has been added as an issue. Shopping List - List jumps to bottom when marking an item as completed ¡ Issue #19373 ¡ home-assistant/frontend ¡ GitHub :hand_with_index_finger_and_thumb_crossed:

so did you found it?..

Full agree. Also the „line-through“ feature of checked items is not good, if you want to readd items from the checked list. I‘ve also reduced the space between the Items.

Fixed that for the moment with cardmod:

card_mod:
  style: >
    .completed .summary {
    text-decoration: none !important;
    }
    ha-check-list-item {
    min-height: 45px !important;
    }

I hope they also revert the „focus-feature“

No not really :slight_smile: , I cant edit card option in “/todo” view in which I use the shopping integration usually; I also tried adding a new card in one of “/lovelace” views, and choose the right list as you said, but it still opens a popup for a single item. BTW Im on 2024.1.2, not DEV branch if that makes any difference; also here is a screenshot:

in your screenshot i see that you did not press the 3 dots in the top right corner and press edit dashboard. after you do that the option edit appears on each card in the bottom left corner.

but also adding a new card will work because the field entity has a shopping list pre-filled…

There is no edit dashboard button on To-do list dashboard (SS below). But as I said, I tried adding the card on another dashboard with the correct list selected, and it still generates a popup to edit the item.

This is on another view where edit is possible:

did you press the correct “3 dots”?

You have edit because you are on “Overview/Overzicht” dashboard - when I put the todo card in that dashboard I also have edit (as shown in screenshots above); but I still have a popup to edit - can you screenshot how you edit items on your list?
