Touch Screen for wall mountimg

Hi there, I’m completely new to home automation and have just chosen Home Assistant to get started with. Got some coding experience so hoping I can pick it up without too much difficulty.

Anyway, my question is can anybody recommend a good 7" or preferably 10" screen which can be wall mounted to act as the user interface for the home automation? I appreciate this is probably more suited to a Raspberry Pi forum as it’s quite generic, but just wondered what you guys are using and how much success you’re having.

Also, is the user interface / GUI a separate component that can be downloaded? Is this simple to set up?

Thanks
Jake

Hey, depends on your budget. A good place to start is with the Amazone Fire HD tablet which is fairly cheap. There are cases that can be used to mount to the wall and others that can be embedded into the wall.

Most people would use Tileboard to have a GUI interface, but all depends what you’re using it for.

Hope this helps start you out.

Thanks.

Thanks for that. Is a tablet suitable or would I be better off with a HDMI monitor like this…

You mention ActionTiles, is this better than LoveLace or just an alternative to?

Thanks
Jake

ActionTiles is for SmartThings not HA. He’s probably thinking of Tileboard which is for HA. It’s just a cleaner look than Lovelace, but you can run either or

I run three Samsung tab A’s 8" models in my walls. They use Fully Kiosk browser and TileBoard dashboard

Hadashboard is another option for the GUI.

Appdademon for HADashboards…currently using four wall mounted panels. each panel is an iPad Mini 4 with vidabox holder and slim mount (https://www.vidabox.com/kiosks/vidamount-secure-fixed-wall-ipad-mini-4-tablet-enclosure-mount-light-grey.html) … panels are located above an existing wall switch to allow for added power outlet (using usb enabled ac outlet). also supporting UHD TV with custom dashboards.

see https://github.com/bmf7777/Home-Assistant-Configuration for my HADashboard configuration (in conf/dashboards directory)

Hello, i’m thinking of putting a tablet on the wall as a home assistant control center. I have an ipad and I would like to know how I can make the screen turn on automatically when someone approaches … thank you very much
