I’m removing the old voice doorbell in my house with a reolink. While doing it I figured I could probably install a HA terminal where the in house terminal used to be.
I can get 24V AC through these wires… but now trying to figure out what the ideal device would be to hang here?
Any recommendations for a low power touch screen web (probably ARM cpu?) console that can operate on 24V?
Before you plan anything, note that HA runs as a headless server. This means that you can’t have it running in a “terminal” with a screen attached.
Well, theoretically you can, but you would have to run some virtualisation or run it on linux, which isn’t really beginner friendly.
My personal suggestion is to install HAOS on a used NUC (cheaper than a Pi and more powerful), then get an android tablet for the wall. You can then use the tablet with any browser / HA companion app / fully kiosk browser to display your dashboard. Plenty of wall mount tablet guides in this forum if you search around.
As for the cables, you can hook some of them up to a usb-c male connector, and have the other end plugged in to the tablet’s power supply on a smart plug to prevent constant charging. Provided those cables aren’t too long, voltage drop should not be an issue.
Cool, then all you need is an android tablet. Have a search around the forums for recommendations - I’m personally going for the Lenovo P11 Pro, but you could even have it running on an Amazon Fire tablet if you’re willing to adjust your expectations.
