Touch Screen with Raspberry Pi vs Wall Mounted Tablet

I’ve been running Home Assistant OS on a PI 3B+ for a little while now and decided that I wanted to add a wall mounted touch screen. So with out doing any research (sorry I know!) I purchased a 7" screen PI case combo off Amazon, installed my Pi, and only the home assistant CLI came up. :disappointed:

First, am I correct in understanding that if I want to use the Pi as both the server and touch screen then I would need to switch to running a HA container on Raspbian?

Second, is this worth doing? Now that I’ve actually looked into it more its seems like a lot of people just use a cheap android tablet like an Amazon Fire as a touch screen interface. I’m pretty new to Linux and Docker, but I need to start learning these for my work so this could also be a good learning experience.

I tried using an Amazon Fire for a while and was never pleased with the result. Look at HASP (Home Automation Switch Plate). I have two and am planning to add more in the next few months. They basically replace a switch in the wall. Except they don’t switch the AC power. In my first installation, I replaced a satellite three-way switch from a Z-wave switch. My second one is a desktop unit. My next one will go in a location where one of the switches controls a Sonoff Mini in the same box. I haven’t measured it yet to make sure there is room for the depth of the HASP plate.
