TP Link HS 105 Plug

So I just picked up one of these smart plugs and tied it into HA. I took a look at the history in HA for it and it seems to become unavailable all the time. Even worse if it is unavailable when a script or automation runs then it won’t turn on/off and stays in it’s state. This really shows how many times it’s dropped:

It’s only 10 feet away from my router through one wall (I have a small house)

Anyone else had these issues any recommendations? I have two TP Link light switches and those work fine. I wonder if this is a dud or just a bad product.

Thanks!

Did you setup the HS-105 to keep the same IP address?

I have a config file with:

  - platform: tplink
    host: 192.168.0.###
    name: TP-Link Outlet

I have never had any issues with it for almost a full year.

@carbuthn thanks for the reply. So yeah I did, I set it on my router to have a static IP and this is what I set in my HA config:

- platform: tplink
  host: "192.168.1.123"
  name: "Bathroom Plug"

Yesterday I rebooted the router and still no luck. I still see unavailable times.

Have you done a firmware update on the plug I have had 2 recently via Kasa app.

Hi @EGO01 thanks for the reply and yes when I installed it there was a firmware update. I’m currently on version 1.5.1 and when I checked this morning there was no firmware updates available. Digging a little deeper the signal strength is -47 which is better than my TP Link light switches that are at -59 and -55. So signal strength shouldn’t be an issue.

It looks like it responds to ping so I may just setup a script to see if it drops packets/ping requests. If it does I think I have grounds for an RMA and if not then it must be an issue on the HA side of things.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far! Let me know if anyone has any other ones, thanks!
