I bought several HS-220 Smart Dimmers in a combo deal and set 1 (or technically 2) up.
When installed, the app works flawlessly all the time. However, Home Assistant was able to see it once and then it has been unavailable since. I swapped the one out with another in case it was an issue with that one. Nope. Same problem.
I have the devices set for static IP via the router. I have tried every combination:
- Stated IP, Discovery enabled
- No stated IP, Discovery enabled
- Stated IP, Discovery disabled
- No config setup, only via interface.
The interface setup finds no TP-Link devices anywhere.
On further investigation, I found that the switch only appears on my router’s list of connected devices maybe 5% of the time. 1 or 2 other devices tend to do this, but the dimmer is clearly still connected as the dimmer app is always working, regardless of whether it appears on my router’s “list”.
Also, is this one of those devices where instead of communicating directly to the device, both Home Assistant and the dimmer are connected to the cloud, and it goes halfway around the world just to turn on a light next to me? I know Samsung SmartHub does this and is why I dodged the platform entirely. But as far as TP-Link goes, this means I may need to check my firewall and DNS server.
Update: I dug around a bit more. It is looking like the HS220 needs to be configured as a dimmer rather than a light. That’s an additional combination to check when I get home. Auto-discovery is still supposed to work, but I also found a known bug where auto-discovery fails if addresses are reserved in DHCP. I could have double-bugged myself. Will have to update this thread when I get home.
