Trigger garage door "remote" with zigbee

First: I’m new with HA, and have set up a Zigbee network with Skyconnect and IKEA-stuff. (I’m not super code savvy.)

Now, I have a garage door that opens using some standard universal remotes with RF radio. I have searched for Zigbee devices that can send a similar signal, without luck.

I have landen on a low tech option of sticking a fingerbot to a spare remote. Like this guy.

But is there really no way of imitating a remote with a simple, battery powered (!) zigbee device?

Before you get creative: I don’t want to do any wiring. (Don’t ask - the garage door control system was a nightmare setting up, involving electricians with several days of work. So I’m not going to touch it ever.)

I just want a battery device that receives a Zigbee signal, and transmits an RF signal. Is that too much to ask?

I doubt you can do it with zer4 wiring/DIY.

But if you can do a small bit of simple soldering you can use a spare remote control and use a zigbee dry contact relay to short across the remote button.

all you need is to solder two wires across the button terminals and hook those wires across the zigbee relay contacts. Once the remote is programmed to the door the closing the relay contacts should be just like pushing the buton.

the only coding you need to do in HA (aside from the obvious automation to turn the relay on to operate the door as desired) is to be sure to turn the relay back off after a second of it being turned on to simulate the button push and release.

Cool! Tampering with a remote is okay. I just dont want to tamper with the control box.

Can you please point me in the direction of such a relay? How would it be powered? I would prefer something with a battery.

if it has to be zigbee then here’s one:

if you can do zwave then this is what I use:

Neither will be battery powered tho and I doubt you will find any type of relay device that will be.

Blah, then fingerbotting a remote is the most elegant solution.

I know you don’t want to touch the box, but honestly, it can’t be that bad.
Most (if not all) garage door openers have 2 contacts that will switch the motor when shorted. It’s how a wired push button works if you have one. The contacts can be as easy as 2 screws and often even push-in contacts.

I’d ask someone who knows about electronics a little to have a look at it. I have 3 MHCozy dry contact zigbee switches for 2 doors and a gate. Works perfectly. It’s even powered from the garage motor, but can also be powered by a USB cable.

Maybe I’ll dare. There’s supposed to be an impulse contact.

I opened the box and hooked up this Tuya zigbee opener. And it works like a charm. Im not using the included magnet sensors, but the new Ikea parasoll sensor (AAA battery) for open/closed state.

I have set up an iOS shortcut (and Home assistant cloud) so I can yell Hey Siri towards my pocket while approaching my garage on my bike, as a hands free soltuion.

This is unreliable. (Partly because my kid is blabbering and also spamming Siri.)

Any other method I could use that will open my door when I’m approaching by bike only? (Some geofence magic?)

I never take that route with a car. I do by foot, but way slower. So if I can set up two geo-checkpoints within such and such timespan to be the trigger?
