Hi,
I have a garage door opener (Genie Garage Opener) connected as a device to home assistant. Recently it has started to open unexpectedly a couple times a month and I wonder why and how to fix it.
The history of the device in the Home Assistant app says “is opening triggered by service cover”. Any idea what this trigger is and how to block it?
I would first dig deep into the DEVICE and see all the related entities, perhaps you forgot that you had some automation that opens the door - or more likely closes the door blindly (not knowing it’s closed already) which translates to opening the door again. I’ve certainly been guilty of that in the past.
If nothing shows up then sort your automation list by last fired date and see if you can pinpoint what happened 20 hours ago that may have caused it. Perhaps your automation was intended to turn on a light and you fat-fingered something and mistakenly chose your garage door. Again, something I’ve done a few times!
One thing I did last year is put a smart outlet on my garage door opener as added security so that when I’m away the garage door is just totally powered off and there’s no chance of it opening on it’s own because of my mistake or because someone hacked it. I wouldn’t suggest that for when you are sleeping though, as you might need the garage as an emergency egress point .
Looks like the user “Kirkland-NE104-11505” manually called that service and opened it; looks an awful lot like someone accidentally hit a button in HA to me.
