Trouble with Device tracker

HI, hoping someone can help. I’m having trouble with device tracker. I’ve enabled device tracker via the Home Assistant app on both my wife’s iPhone and my Android phone. I now see lots of new sensors and two new device_tracker entities in HA. But tracker.lynn_s_iphone (my wife’s phone) always shows a Home status whether she’s home or not, and device_tracker.vs988 (my phone) also shows a Home status as well as “No state history found”.

I’ve clearly left something out. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Are the permissions on the phone set to allow gps even when the app is not open? You can add a map card to lovelace and set a device tracker to it. Then you should be able to see if it has tracked any of your movements.

I’ve added the card and it definitely shows that we’re currently home. I’ll take a drive and see if the map updates correctly. Thanks

Do you have remote access?
Can you open the app on your drive and see if you can switch a light or something.
While parked…

Remote access appears to be on but I’ve never tested it. I’ll try your suggestion. Thx

You can just disable wifi and let the phone connect on mobile internet and see if it works.

Yep, remote access works.

I’m clearly doing something stupid. Remote access works, HA recognizes that my phone is at my home address, but the location never changes even though I drove 30 miles away.

There is a long thread about location tracking on the android app subforum.
Does your car have bluetooth, see if you can use the high accuracy mode when connected to bluetooth (or using the area setting).
It’s in the settings of the app.
