I don’t know if this was the best topic to put this in but I am having troubles with running home assistant I am following along with this video and when I launch home assistant on a VM it runs fine but I can’t access the webserver thing to create an account I tried “hassio.local:8123” I tried “(MY IP):8123” neither of these work and I don’t know what to do please help
Can you ping it?
what do you mean by that its a VM running off my computer could you explain how I would ping it since I’m new to this
Sorry that would be too complicated to explain. You will have to look at the networking part of your vm and host.
oh ok alg i guess ill go somewhere else then
Start -> cmd -> ping yourip.
This way you can ping. Though VM (running vmware at least) will block your ping attemps by default.
when i did ping then my ip it came out with this
Ping statistics for (my ip):
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms
so i think it is working but i dont know what it proves since i am pinging my own computer since the vm is running off this computer and all the vm is saying right now is
Welcome to home Assistant
homeassistant login:
You are pinging your host and not your VM?
If you get the home assistant login that works at least. But IF you get it, it means you’ve allready setup a login I guess… ?
from what i can tell i cant ping the VM since it is running off my computer and has the same IP address and yes it is waiting for a login but I nor anyone in my house has setup a login
The VM should have a different IP otherwise it cannot communicate seperatly. What VM solution do you use?
i was having troubles getting the ip for my vm but i got in thank you for the help
