Hello everyone!
I have been using Tado TRVs for some time (the older V3+) and it worked fine. I was not thrilled about the cloud part, but otherwise everything worked as expected, and I had presence detection integrated through HA, so I didn’t need their subscription.
I have moved recently, and the old Tado hub no longer covers the entire household, plus I now have a boiler that needs to be controlled as well. I initially wanted to get the newer Tado X TRVs + wireless receiver to control the boiler, but I found out that they have significantly curbed the API use without a subscription, and I am for sure not about to sign up for a subscription just to control my heating.
So what I want to achieve
I would like to control both the TRVs and the boiler from HA. If some room goes below target temperature, the boiler turns on and the TRV opens. Tado allowed me to set different timelines for different rooms and for home/away states. I assume that the combination with the boiler would require some more advanced logic (like it probably doesn’t make sense to turn on the boiler when a single room is half a degree below target, but when two rooms are, it’s time to fire up, etc).
I am wondering, is this even possible with HA? Or maybe more precisely, how difficult and clunky will it be?
I am aware of the Advanced Heating Control blueprint, but I couldn’t find out whether it includes TRV control or not.
The hardware
Does anyone have experience with Zigbee TRVs and boiler controllers/thermostats - the thing that gets wired to the boiler to turn it on and off?
I already have a Zigbee network, so I definitely prefer Zigbee, but Wi-Fi is also definitely viable. I am not exactly keen on establishing a parallel thread network, though. I would also prefer to be able to buy these components in the EU without cross-the-world shipping.
Sorry about the wall of text; I’ve been thinking about this, and I keep feeling like maybe I am missing something or perhaps thinking about this wrong, so any insight or experience is much appreciated!
