Trying to setup a bluetooth thermometer, not sure how to diagnose

Hi folks. I’m trying to setup a BT thermometer as per this page Xiaomi Mijia BLE Temperature and Humidity Sensor.

The problem I’m having is that I don’t think I’m getting any connection, but I also can’t find any of the diagnostic tools mentioned in various forum posts and stuff. Neither hcitool or bluetoothctl are on my install.

I’m running on an rPi 4, possibly on a Hassbian image - I installed it so long ago I can’t remember and not sure how to find out.

My System info page tells my I’m on:

Looks like it was my fault - the MAC address must be formatted with the colons in it. I just had the raw MAC without extra characters. Once I put in the “:” between each pair, it worked.
