TTS message on sync on many google home devices

Hi all,

does any know a working way to have tts message sent to a group of google home mini in sync?

I always have 1 or 2 that start later than other and the result is poor.

Thank you in advance!

How are you currently sending these TTS messages? Are you sending to multiple devices or a group?

We send tts messages to a group (created in the google home app) and when sending you can actually hear them all beep at slightly different times and then the message comes through completely synchronised.

I suspect (although never tried) if I sent message to multiple individual devices they may not play in sync.

DAMN!

That was so simple! I created a group IN GOOGLE HOME instead of the one created HOME ASSISTANT and voilĂ  : contents are now in sync!

Thank you very much!

Glad you got it sorted, in general I find it better (in most cases anyway) to create groups if possible in the native app.

Its the same with Hue for example, grouped lights switch instantly via HA if calling the native Hue group but tend to switch randomly if calling a HA created group.

Wow, that’s super cool! I didn’t know about Google Home groups!
Seems they really make having multiple Nest speakers around the place handy by being able to perfectly cast audio and music to them all, perfectly synchronised.

Took me a few minutes to find it so these steps might save someone else a little time.
To setup a new Speaker Group:

  • Open the “Home” app from Google
  • Click Media
  • Click Speaker Groups (at the bottom)
  • Select the intended devices, name it and save
  • A new media entity should very quickly appear in Home Assistant to which you can cast audio. You can even cast to this group directly through apps like Spotify

It’s weird I have a completely opposite result. I usually use groups within HA and although they are not synchronised they play the message.

I have changed to using the Google Home groups and for some reason the TTS message only plays on one speaker, the other speakers play milliseconds of the TTS and then stop.

Well unfortunately at present this appears to be a common problem with google and we have the same issues.

I haven’t been bothered to look in to it or correct it as google hubs are being depreciated so n our house as soon as HA voice hardware improves.

Google hubs are being depreciated!?

Sorry didn’t notice the typo, what I was trying to type with my big fat fingers is:

Google hubs are being depreciated in OUR house.

Haha, that makes sense. Please let us know how the migration goes once you take the leap.

As for the issue, it doesn’t seem to be affecting everyone from what I can see.
