Turn on driveway lights at night as I enter neighborhood - Owntrack?

I thought I’d use owntrack on my iphone to switch my outdoor driveway lights on when I get near my home. Everything I read says it should work…but I always seem to miss some critical step.

I configured owntrack in HA and transferred the codes correctly to the iphone owntrack application. The iphone application is trying to connect to something…but failing (timing out). If it’s trying to connect to my HA server, the router config may be my problem (Arriss nvg468mq FIOS).

I didn’t do much research on whether owntrack was the best way to go…I’m open to changing if there’s a better solution.

Anyone up to the task of helping me through getting this working.

If you use the Home Assistant iOS app and use the region enter notification, it will do what you want as long as the app can connect to your HA instance. No need to use Own Tracks for this particular application. I’m doing it and my house lights turn on as I approach the house.
