Hi there,
I am about to enter the world of smart home and HA, and I would like to start by buying 2 ceiling fans with LED light. Unfortunaly the only one (Lucande) I find here in Greece that I like its design and has smart home/wifi controls, are Tuya. From what I read that’s not an open source protocol and tricky or flakie to intergrate with HA.
Apologies if that’s a topic that has been repeated a few timesm but I was wondering what’s the latest news and any recent experiences with the localTuya/TuyaLocal inergrations.
I would definitely like to avoid being depended on a cloud service. Should I stay away from Tuya all together and fall back to a different type of ceiling fan?
To my honest opinion, stay away. Not just because of Tuya, but generally devices that use it.
For example this Lucande brand, can you find the manufacturer? Conformity certificates?
Yeah I know what you mean. It’s a very strange and somewhat worring that there isn’t an official website of the manufacturer, even though they do give 5 years warranty.
ChatGPT says they are based and designed in Germany (?!?), but it’s certainly made in China. On the other hand, that’s the only kind of brands I came across for ceiling fans. I wish there were more established one in the market, or more models to chose from of a simple/clean design.
Yep, common problem here. Especially when budget is not unlimited.
If you are aware that the product is likely not certified and that the warranty might be just a joke and that Tuya likely will give you some extra tinkering and still buy it because there aren’t better options for the design/price, then it’s ok.
