Is Tuya Local loaded through HACS any different than loading it through Integrations?
Hi John, you need both (I think): ‘one is the core and the other is the control’.
Just start off with the integration.
Tuya local is what it says; it will be using your local network instead of the cloud.
The standard Tuya integration will use Tuya as is (based on DHCP discovery), and will depend on cloud services. As result, the Tuya integration will fail without internet
No you don’t, you either use local Tuya, or the standard (cloud) Tuya
I only use the Local Tuya
But there is also local tuya in HACS and I have the impression that John has found both (in integrations & HACS)
If you haven’t installed any HACS version of Tuya, HA will find the standard Tuya, which uses the cloud:
If you don’t want to use the cloud (like I do), you can install Local Tuya from HACS
Hi Nick4,
I live in Australia. I’ve tried 2 types of downlight. One through a gateway (Brilliant) and the other direct wifi (Arlec/GridConnect).
As I understand it (I’m probably wrong) loading Tuya Local (please note this isn’t Local Tuya) as an integration is the endorsed version but loading the HACS version I’m hoping has other developments built in which may address my lights.
Please note that both types of lights are found in Tuya but I’d like to take them out of the cloud.
Thanks everyone for your responses.
John
Hi johnhedge,
There at least 3 custom Tuya integrations available in HACS and the official Tuya one in HA core.
All function different and have different features.
All struggle in different ways to make Tuya work. There is always a different way to polish a txxx thing.
Thanks for that.
I’d like to find one that works for my lights other than official Tuya
I can only find local tuya in hacs. This one GitHub - rospogrigio/localtuya: local handling for Tuya devices
I expected to find more.
I have dropped my Tuya stuff (tried both cloud & local) because of the issues with integrating them.
The only advantage is that they are quite cheap and easy to acquire. (my experience)
My HACS finds 2 versions:
- GitHub - rospogrigio/localtuya: local handling for Tuya devices
- GitHub - xZetsubou/hass-localtuya: 🔹 A Home Assistant integration to handle Tuya devices locally "fork from localtuya" (is a fork from the first after that one was not developed for some time but it’s active again)
The second one requires adding a custom hacs repo.
Not sure about one called Tuya local (as opposed to local Tuya.)
Owkay, that explains it!
I probably did that at the time when I was trying to get my devices going and since this was a PITA I tried a lot of stuff but in the end I ditched them.
I got some working for some time but the whole process is just not worth it (for me)
I guess it all depends on how many devices one has that rely on the integration and how much time they are willing to spend…
Yes I am certainly not encouraging people to use Tuya wifi devices. PITA. Their ZigBee devices usually work, but they also usually require custom work to zigbee2mqtt.
