After an hour or so it just started working.

Can somebody please help me to understand Tuyas Subscribe to Cloud Development Plan?

With the $0/Year option I only can use a maximum of 50 Tuya devices - how do I handle more than 50 devices? And I have a “Monthly Quota” of $1/ $12 per year after the trail?

Supported Device Category ¡ tuya/tuya-home-assistant Wiki (github.com)

Hi we need the help from community to support more categories of devices. Some new drivers are developed already by users in github. Pull requests ¡ tuya/tuya-home-assistant (github.com) It would be nice to see your participation in the drivers development. Home Assistant Beta Test | Tuya

I only went as far as capturing debug info for the device I need, but couldn’t find an instruction set for the “gyd” category and lost confidence in my programming mojo. I will give myself a pep talk and try again.

So what is the current view on this?

I understand this integration

  • is formally supported by Tuya (unlike the current one where the tuya developer disappeared and so the API has stagnated, and we are relying on people like PaulAnnekov to keep it alive).
  • requires the end user to create a cloud project account?
  • is still cloud based rather that supporting local access
  • is free?
  • is still in beta

does it have enough functionality to replace the existing Tuya integration? is it stable?

so far its been great compare to the old integrations. It have not supported all but its getting there.Hopefully it will soon support local.

I’m just happy I now have support (kinda) for my Tuya based vacuum in HA. It always says it’s cleaning, no matter what it’s doing, but at least I can start, stop and park it from within HA. I’m sure the bugs will get ironed out, but for now I can incorporate the vacuum into my automations and that makes me happy.

Works great with my Cybernova PIR motion detection device!!! I was using the Ping method before to alert me when my mailbox on the street was opened, but there was always a delay of 1+ seconds using the Ping approach. Now I am instantly alerted using this inexpensive, wireless, battery powered motion sensor!

I read somewhere else on the forum that September 21 is touted as the Beta for local support.

It shouldn’t be that hard given there are a couple of HACS integrations that support local only and (with a firewall block on the devices internet access via a VLAN) they work well (imho as I use one of them).

I have figured out the reason for authentication issues and why people are finding that creating new accounts works. There is an issue with certain special characters not being accepted in the password, i havn’t gone through and tested which ones. But test the authentication with all letters and numbers and see how it works.

So local control wont be forthcoming anytime soon, didnt see that coming.

I’ll check back in and sign up when we’re testing local control. Until then, I don’t see the benefit over custom integrations…

How did you come to that conclusion?

Mostly I have read is that it is in the works and is potentially being slated for September 21 Beta testing.

Fair point. I may be naive but I still think they are going to do it - it’s more about how to do it right.

Given HA and Tuya are collaborating officially and this feature has been mentioned is what gives me hope. I doubt they would spin porkies when the relationship is so new.

In the mean time there is LocalTuya which works great for me - couple with the right FW rules.

Hope they don’t do anything to “accidentally” break the LocalTuya integration.

I take it this is dead for the time being. Local control which is essential is not delivered.

Shame Tuya - you had me for a while there but no more. Leopard and spots springs to mind.

Indeed, without local control it’s not worth it.

Anyway, the current tuya integration is gone in 2021.10, and replaced with v2.

Great timing @michel72, Tuya just had a worldwide outage and all devices became unavailable to Home Assistant, perfectly demonstrating why there is a need for exclusively local control.
