1st post and am not very familiar with Home Assistant. I’ve been watching some video’s on how to integrate a Tuya device with HA, however they do not match what I’m seeing in the GUI. Firstly I want to set up the Tuya plug to control a lamp to turn on at 7 pm and turn off at 11 pm. It has been recognized by HA. Part of my frustration is that it appears this can be done via the GUI, however I can’t find any video’s on how to do this. All seem to suggest editing a yaml file. I want to do it through the GUI. Is it possible???
2nd question, is there an article or video that outlines the basic theory of HA; i.e. what is a device, what is an event, what is a trigger and how does they all relate to each other?
Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided. I’m sure once I figure out the methodology and how I’m going to utilize HA, then I’ll be able to achieve some interesting things with it.
This isn’t directly related to what you are asking, but many Tuya devices can be easily flashed with Tasmota, and taken out of the cloud. Tasmota can emulate Hue or Wemo has a great timer for on-device scheduling built right in. You can flash many devices over the air, so no soldering or electronic surgery is required. The end result is pretty much the same as using the Smart Life / Tuya app, but it works without outside internet access, which takes Tuya out of the loop, increasing both privacy and security.
Google “tuya-convert” for info on how to flash Tasmota, if you are interested.
Thanks Bill for the advice. The Tasmoto flashing is definitely something I want to look into. For now my goal is to simply turn the smart plug on at 7pm and off at 11pm. For whatever reason, this doesn’t seem obvious to me. I get that I’m new to all of this, but surely there is a simple, straight forward way to do this. I had a mechanical timer that turned a light on at 7pm and off at 11pm. How do I do the same thing via the GUI?
Thanks for your response Nick, however I’m not understanding how to program the smart plug, via the GUI, which is why I’m reaching out to tbe forum. Some of us aren’t that sharpe and it takes several attempts from different angles to comprehend whats in front of them. That is why I’m asking for help and I’m trying to keep it as simple (in my mind) as possible. Once I graspe the concept of how to program the plug, via the GUI, I’ll be ready for bigger and better things. Until that time, I’m relying on the generosity and wisdom of people like yourself and Bill to guide this exciting application.
Thanks for the suggestion and yes, I did read the response in link two. Unfortunately when I look at my setup I’m not comprehending how I turn on the plug at 7pm. I can figure out how to turn it on for three hours, but that’s not what I want.
Thanks Nick. Would you be able to provide screen shots? I’m a visual learner and don’t react well to written instructions, which maybe part of the issue. I watched a Dr. Zzz’s video and it came very close to showing me what to do. Unfortunately it was for WiFi blinds that he wanted to open and close remotely. If it had been defined as closing the blinds at 7 pm and opening them at 11 pm, then I might have been able to convert that visual into my situation.
If you have watched a DrZZ’s video (you don’t say which one) then you’ll be 95% there. Perhaps what you are missing is the correct trigger. You want a time trigger at 19:00 (yes that is 24 hour clock).
