Tuya Zigbee Signal Repeater working with ZHA and Conbee 2

Thank you for your replies both. I am leaning towards the CC 2531 more and more.

I was at work couldnā€™t answer earlier, I also donā€™t have issues with these reapeters, I have 3 of these repeaters in my Zigbee network with a lot Aqara, Blitzwof, Tuya, Sonoff and Tradfri devices and I didnā€™t see any issues, I got total of 78 devices (including these repeaters)

zigbee

If you donā€™t need them urgent, buy some Sonoff Zigbee Plus dongles, they cost hardly more than a CC2531, are cheaper than those Tuya repeaters, and way more powerful than both of them.

could you please link one that youā€™d recommend that would work with ZHA. I am not using zigbee2mqtt

Flashed as Zigbee router, they work with any Zigbee stack.

Thank you!!!
would one be enough for a 1200 square foot house or should I invest in 2? I do have my HA and zigbee coordinator in the basement if that matters

I would buy 2

Thank you for your help!

I would recommend having at least 3 ā€œstableā€ always-on mains-powered Zigbee router devices in any house regardless of size just to create the core of a Zigbee network mesh with some robustness to it.

Signal transmission and reception strength depend a lot on wall/ceiling/floor materials and construction.

You might technically not even need any Zigbee router devices if your house only has a single floor with open plan living and you have the possibility to place the Zigbee coordinator up high in the middle/center of that house, however, if robustness is a requirement then I would still have Zigbee router devices.

However, as long as you at least have some ā€œgoodā€ Zigbee devices acting as always-on mains-powered Zigbee router + known to be compatible then they do not all need to be dedicated Zigbee routers, some of them can be any type of permanently install Zigbee wall plug or lightbulb. The more devices you have acting as ā€œstableā€ Zigbee routers the better.

I have a four-floor house counting the basement and attic where the two main floors are about 1000 square feet each and to cover that I started out by putting an IKEA Signal Repeater on each floor as dedicated always-on mains-powered Zigbee router devices (even hidden them away a little so that they will not get unplugged by accident), but after that I still added many more additional always-on mains-powered Zigbee devices which most of them can also act as Zigbee router devices.

Regardless of Zigbee Coordinator adapter type or Zigbee implementation recommend follow these tips:

Have you tested these to work as router with ZHA? I flashed the router firmware and they canā€™t be paired. Blakadder site only shows they work as coordinator, no mentions about router.

ZHA developers have tested Tuya Zigbee USB Range Extender / USB Dongle Signal Repeater (Tuya SKU: ā€œRP280ā€ / Zigbee ID: ā€œTS0207ā€) with the default firmware that Tuya is shipping and reported that their interoperability compatibility is awful as they do not route all messages. See that discussion here:

https://github.com/zigpy/zigpy/discussions/736

So if you want to use it then you should first reflash it with custom firmware. See example:

https://github.com/grobasoz/zigbee-firmware/

https://github.com/zha-ng/EZSP-Firmware

https://github.com/xsp1989/zigbeeFirmware/

https://github.com/walthowd/husbzb-firmware

I have been using multiple mains and battery powered Tuya/Xiaomi/Osram devices in my network and relying on Tuya Mini Repeaters and it has been working very well.

To clearify, ZHA/zigpy developers have actually used a Zigbee sniffer to sniff the Zigbee traffic to and from those Tuya Zigbee USB Range Extender and seen that they not only do not comply with Zigbee specifications but thay are as well actually dropping messages from some non-Tuya devices, and it is therefore that the ZHA/zigpy developers are strongly recommending not to use that Tuya USB Router with the default factory shipped from factory.

So if using it with any non-Tuya devices then should consider flashing it with different firmware, and to flash it with different firmware are going to need a JTAG adapter compatible with Silicon Labs EFR32.

Specifically, it uses Silabs EFR32MG13 / EFR32MG13P732HI chip, same as Tuya TYZS1 module, which should have 512KByte Flash program memory (and 64KB RAM data memory,), see:

Tuya Signal Repeater Reset

I too got som issues with this Tuya Signal repeater when i tried to rescan all Zigbee devices after switching from CC2531 to Conbee II. I gave the Conbee II up after confirming that it couldnā€™t find a few of my other Zig-devices either).

When i recieved my new " SONOFF ZigBee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus" I started reentereing the Zig-devices and sensors to my HA.
And sure enough i got some issues again with the Tuya Zigbee Signal Repeater/Router/Extender that donā€™t have a ā€œreset-buttonā€.
Some forums listed this as an issue that was ā€œclose to unsolvableā€, listed some suggestion to do this via a Tuya App and bluetooth. No help at all since i dont have a Tuya hub. (And I donā€™t want any cloud gatweways either)

I may have found the way to do this.
A bit hard to find, but the solution was listed on the Tuya supportpages. (And of course not under the product FAQ!)
How to reset the Zigbee device to the state to be configured? (Lighting device)

Lighting equipment: Firstly, make sure the device is powered off for more than 10 seconds before powering on the device. Then turn on and off three times (on-off-on-off-on) power of the device (2 to 4 seconds between each on and off). Wait a few moments until the lighting starts blinking rapidly. The device enters the pairing mode. You can add it now.

This worked for me and i was able to rescan the device.
And my other devices closer to the Tuya Zigbee Signal repeater showed up when scanning for new devices in pairing mode. (Tuya Movement sensor and Weather sensor that i had range issues with.)

All Zig devices online again! :vulcan_salute:

This worked for me - thank you!
