Two phones. Identical setup and config. One updates location, one does not

Hi
we have a Pixel 8 and a Pixel 7a. Both have the companion app and are configured 100% identical. Power settings, data saver off, always allow, precise location etc etc etc. Went through everything multiple times and tried multiple new reinstallations.

HA shows constant location updates for P8.
Nothing for P7a.

P7a connection to home assistant server does work:
Mobile App - Device - P7a - Diagnostic always updates states like battery level.
Just the location is never updated. Logbook is empty.

What troubleshooting steps do you recommend? What logs are worth looking into ?
I am somewhat new, and the log locations and contents are a bit overwhelming :-).

I’ve only used the companion app on an iPhone, but it has the option to force a location update. Is that possible on the Pixel and if so, does it work?

I presume the phone has been added to a user to track them?
