Using Philips Hue lights and a Philips Hue button mounted in an Iyoki adapter over the original switch, connecting via the PH bridge, tied into HA. If/when HA gets a solid stable virtual bridge implementation of Entertainment mode for our disco nights, the physical bridge might go completely.
Love the functionality, love that I can use the adapter to mount the buttons over the existing switches to prevent them being turned off and without having to wire or replace anything, love that I can easily pop off the cover to access the original switches when required.
Have grown to hate, with a passion, the magnet button form factor, a feeling shared with the rest of the family. Not keen on the PH dimmer, either. They are both horrid pokey little things that keep getting knocked off and roll under the table every time we stagger back from the pub and drunkenly stab at the wall in an effort to turn the lights on fully. They’re not much better when sober, either.
Is there a nice big paddle-style button that can install in the same way, i.e., over the top of an existing dumb switch? Alternatively, for the types that completely replace the existing switch, are there any that can safely be wired permanently on (seeing as the lightbulbs are smart and need constant power) and just send a signal that I can use in HA? I’m in the UK so no neutral wires in the light switches!
Don’t mind z wave or zigbee (would be nice if PH hub could see it) but want to avoid adding wifi-based stuff or another proprietary ecosystem into the mix.
I’ve been hunting around online for a few days and either can’t find what I’m looking for (if it even exists) or not realising that I’ve found something that can achieve it.
Any suggestions would be very welcome!
