UK Weather stations for HA

Does anyone have any recommendations for reasonably-priced weather stations that will feed into Home Assistant that are easily available in the UK?

Ambient Weather is well-regarded here it seems, from searching, but is only available in the US and shipping and customs make it expensive. Davis are good but more expensive… Is there an Ambient Weather equivalent available in the UK (or the EU)?

thanks.

Probably not a solution for but this might give you an idea. I use Weather Display to obtain data from my weather station. Mine happens to be a Davis.

Weather Display has built in mqtt that’s not hard to setup. So any weather station can be used to send data to home assistant.

thanks - but I’m actually after recommendations on weather stations. No problems with using mqtt or interpreting 433MHz signals, just after a decentish weather station sensor set without having to pay a fortune!

solved - found an Ecowitt one (who are the master brand for Ambient Weather) and available in the UK (and cheaper!)

I would be interested to know what you ended up buying, from where, and how you’re getting on with it, please.

So far I have been patiently waiting for the Tempest system to become available in the UK.

nothing bought as yet as I needed to upgrade the Pi3 (for a NUC i3) and also need to build my oil tank sensing system (as I ran out of oil again!) before I do the weather. But in the meantime I’ve been building my dog walking indicator, which changes my kitchen spotlights to indicate whether I should walk the dog now, shortly, or later, depending on the forecast for rain

hahaha… love it

I’m in the UK and have the Tempest.

I am very impressed with it and the AI forecasting seems to be really accurate.

The instantaneous data from it in HA is really useful, though what I am missing in HA is access to the hourly forecast.

Anyone know how to do this?

Do you mind saying where you bought it from?

Sure. I backed the Indiegogo/Kickstarter campaign (can’t remember which of those).

At the time, shipping location wasn’t an issue though that’s changed now.

There’s loads of them in the UK if you look at their weather station map.

It’s an excellent device.

Do you know someone in the US who could send you one?

Not really, no.

I know this was a while ago, but the Tempest is now available in the UK.

Thanks - I bought one 6 months ago.

Where can you get this in the UK?

You said Europe in the other thread or I would have sent you a different screenshot!

I think it’s a bug on the site as the ‘add to cart’ button is faded out, compared to the bright blue when you select USA/Canada.

From what I’ve read, they’re facing issues with QC on the international models as well as the global chip issues.

Probably going to look at an Ecowitt weather station. Less than half the price of the Tempest!

Or you could just move to Canada

That is a bummer though. I’ve had mine about a year and it’s been great.

You send them a tweet asking when it will be available, and they tell you to fill in a form to be notified.
Then a day or 2 later, they send you an email, inviting you purchase at a discount, on the understanding that this is a “top secret” retail test, and as they will be shipping it from the US, you will be responsible for paying the shipping and customs charges.

If you are one of those people, like myself, who got here thanks to a search engine.
Tempest is now available in the UK too for a price of £349.
