Ultimate Goal - Cloud Free

Ok, as the title states, I want to get away from cloud based solutions and looking for some ideas/help. There are a lot of threads/posts and too many to make the right decisions. I have been only working with HA for the past several weeks I have accomplished a lot but, I’m trying to finalize my hardware, etc. before I get too far into it. Currently, I have a mixed bag of switches (fan & light) and various RF controlled fans. Below is a list of what I have or ordered…

  • Home Assistant Green.
  • Nabu Casa Cloud (running on my own sub-domain w/ remote control).
  • Amazon Echo’s
  • HD Fire 10 Gen 13 - Fully Kiosk Mode
  • Aoetec Sensor (Zigbee) used w/ HD Fire for Kiosk Mode.
  • Ratgdo
  • Ring Alarm w/ camera’s, sensors and Kwikset 916 ZWave Lock.
  • SkyConnect (waiting on next batch), this will be replacing my Samsung SmartThings V3 hub.
  • TP-Link (Tapo - Matter) Switches and & Dimmers.
  • TreatLife Fan Switches (Tuya-Local)
  • 3 - RF Fan/Light units. (Tuya-Local)

TIA for any help, suggestions or comments!

I just now saw an Amazon recommendation for the Tapo Matter switches and that has me curious if I should try that versus the Meross smart switches with the local MQTT integration. What has your experience been with the Tapo Matter devices?

I’ve been doing my best to stick with a small set of brands, and especially with known working local control. Most Zigbee devices are good, and help to keep my wireless access points free of extra traffic.

I’m just getting the switches in little by little and I’m thinking the wait is they are a new line with TP-Link… as soon as they’re all in I’ll reply back.

Ah, I missed the mention that some of your list was on order. I’ll be curious to hear how it goes. I’ve been seeing that I think Matter requires IPv6, which I don’t have functional in my local network currently, so I’m thinking that might be a bad choice. Feeling like since I know that my Meross devices have generally work pretty solid over local MQTT I’m probably going to stick with those for now.

Yes, Matter is only IPv6 but my routers (2ea. Deco XE75Pro) supports it.
