I’m trying to add the repository GitHub - simbaja/ha_gehome: GE Home Appliances (SmartHQ) for Home Assistant to be able to manage my GE appliance with SmartHQ. Once I’m in the Add-on Store, I click on the 3 dots in the top right hand corner, select Repositories, paste the URL to add, and click Add. I then get the error message “GitHub - simbaja/ha_gehome: GE Home Appliances (SmartHQ) for Home Assistant is not a valid add-on repository”. From what I’ve read, others have added the repository lately without any issue. I’m new to HA and I’m wondering if I’m not doing this correctly or there might be some settings I need to change. I’m running HAOS on an Intel NUC.
This is an integration not an addon.
Follow the instructions for adding a custom repository to HACS
The FAQ on how to add a custom repository seems to be out of date. It mentions to “Go to any of the sections (integrations, frontend, automation)”, click on the 3 dots on the top right corner, and select “custom repositories”. The closest I can find is the Devices and Services screen which is used for integrations. When I click on the 3 dots in the top right the only option is “Application Credentials”.
correct… IN HACS:
in any of those three sections - highlighted above…
The three dot elipsis menu at the top right:
Custom Repositories.
If you’re seeing Application Credentials you’re in Settings, not in HACS.
Excuse my ignorance, how do you get to HACS?
HACS == Home Assistant Community Store. It is an installable component that makes it MUCH easier to install and manage community built / provided custom components like the one you’re trying to install.
I will assume if you don’t know how to ‘go to’ it then HACS isn’t installed. Fix that here, the link will guide you through installing it in your HA instance:
Prerequisites | HACS
Initial Configuration | HACS
Once you have it installed, you’re going to be installing a community provided custom repository (Your GE integration) into HACS:
Custom Repositories | HACS
I think I understand now. I didn’t realize it’s a separate installation.
Thanks very much for your help.
Not a problem - we all start somewhere - just… don’t fall down the rabbit hole when you first install HACS.
No matter what you want to do - Don’t install EVERYTHING.
good luck!
Got everything working. Thanks again for your help.
