Unable to connect Tuya Smart IR Wifi device to Tuya Local as a remote entity

I was googling around for ways to connect this Tuya Smart IR Blaster to HA without having to rely on the Smart Life app and calling scenes via the cloud.

I found this thread where others were trying to do the same, and my device seems to be the same S18 device shown in post #30.

I was trying to follow @BenAndo 's post (#31) confirming it could work, however the further I got when trying to set it up via the Tuya Local integration or any of the other forks, was the type selector as there only certain options like switch, light etc and I couldn’t find one for remote.

I also don’t quite understand how to set up the Smart IR integration that’s mentioned, but I do understand it seems to work if you can figure out how to have it listen for IR signals and save them.

Any advice or tips here would be great, or pointing me towards any resources would also be greatly appreciated!

This integration addresses that gap. It provides full local control of Tuya Wi-Fi IR remote controllers within Home Assistant, entirely bypassing the Tuya cloud. By doing so, you gain:

  • Local Control: No external cloud services required. All communication remains within your local network, improving reliability and responsiveness.
  • Flexible IR Control: Seamlessly integrate Wi-Fi-based IR remote emulators from Tuya, enabling you to manage a wide range of IR-controlled devices—such as TVs, air conditioners, and audio systems—directly from Home Assistant.

@krskrab not sure why I wasn’t able to find that when searching but thank you so much! I got it to work for the S18 device I have, and I also crossposted in the original thread as a consistent solution that seems to be working well.
