Unable to get Aqara P2 connected to HA Yellow

i even disabled OBTR firewall on the Silicon Labs Multiprotocol which i found in another thread on here.

nothing

found the QR code on the back of the booklet…

but it didnt change a thing.

still the same “no connection to thread network home-assistant possible”

i am frustrated.
seems i am the only one not getting it to work.

i had a second Aqara P2 bought with the first, and now i unpacked it and tested it and as you might guess, it doesnt work either.

deinstalled matter, thread, otpr, Silicon Labs Multiprotocol

restarted the whole HA yellow system

enabled the multiprotocol again
thread was installed automaticall
installed matter

tested again

same error.

its 2 am, going to sleep…

OK, at least that’s something. Don’t lose it. Put a copy in the battery compartment,

Do the following to get more of the right people to see this topic & help you.:

  • Change the thread title to “Unable to get Aqara matter code accepted on HA Yellow”.
  • Also, add the tag ‘Aqara" to this topic and change its category to `Configuration’.

…sorry, but I neither have a Yellow, nor do I use matter and I am out of suggestions.

i changed the things according to your suggestion with my understanding of my problem.

good luck!

I just got my Aqara P2 too. I have HA running on a Pi 4 and installed the Matter Add-on as well as the Matter integration. Then you go to Devices & Services and there you have an option called add matter devices. I scanned the QR-code on the paper booklet and could add the sensor in HA. Before I resetted the sensor by pressing the big round button 10 times until the LED blinks.

My matter-router is a Homepod mini.

suddenly the sensor became unavailable, I resetted it to the factory default settings.

I think i found out something very interesting. I could connect the sensor first in the Homekit-app from iOS BUT i couldnt connect it to HA via enabling the pairing-mode in the Homekit-app. It always says device cannot be added.

So I resetted the device again. This time I firstly added it in HA via the add matter device integration using the QR-code.

Then I added the device in Homekit via the QR-code AGAIN and it worked.

summary: I could add the sensor once in HA and once in Homekit. Honestly I dont know if it is the same entity, when I open the window, both HA and Homekit change their state.

Just wanted to let you know, maybe it could be helpful for further investigations.

I have the exact same problem but found no solution yet. More advices would be very helpful.

I received my Aqara P2 sensors last night and am having a similar problem. I’ve added them to homekit, and added it to Alexa, but am unable to add it to Home Assistant. I have several, so I opened the second one and tried to add it directly first but it just sits on the ‘Connecting to Server’ and never completes. I am wondering if perhaps the zigbee or bluetooth is interfering from the HA Yellow some how. These are my first Matter/Thread devices.

I tried to factory reset my device (hit the button 10 times), but that didn’t work. I am sitting in the same room as my HA yellow, Aqara P2 sensor, and iPhone. So there should be no issues with range…

I’ll report back if I find a solution, in the mean time I am interested to hear if how others got this to work.

When trying to connect my Aqara P2 to HA yellow, I am sure it’s talking to the P2, as I see rapid blinking on the P2 indicator light, it just seems like after what ever communication happens then, the sensor just never hooks up to my HA yellow.

I have 2 work arounds right now.

  1. create an input toggle in HA as a helper to reflect the state of the sensor. Expose it to HomeKit and run an automation in homekit to set the state of the toggle based on the state of the Aqara P2. Then I can just run HA automations using my helper instead of the Aqara P2. This is familiar to me from Hoobs.

  2. Add my P2 to alexa and expose it to HA. Then run automations as normal. I didn’t think of this until I was at work, and was a little put out with how easy it was to set this up. I am going to see how much latency exists, but most of my sensor automations don’t need instant reactions.

I’ll keep trying

As an FYI, here is a writeup I did for pairing an Aqara P2 to an HA Thread network. I don’t think there was anything magic in my setup that made it work, it just so happens it did work.

Hello there,

i read your writeup and i followed it step by step. Resetted, restarted, whatever… All the things you write.

And guess what? ------ It didnt work.

I can see the image of the P2 on my Android phone, i see it finds it and it tries to connect, but in the end it never connects to HA Yellow.

Other people wrote that they connected it to like every system that exists on this planet first and later to HA but i have no homekit nor other things.

I just can say that this Thread/Matter shit is a show off technology for fancy youtubers generating thounsands of euros or dollars or whatever making fancy videos about fancy stuff, but if i buy that shit it doesnt work. Its already dead, soon after birth.
Nothing from “standard” and “works everywhere” or “now thats the future, it will be so simple”.
Its just shit. Noithing more, nothing less. Just SHIT.

Yeah, the App is using Bluetooth initially to talk to the device to figure out what kind it is, but from there, unfortunately so many things can go wrong.

Based on my experience (and even what the developers are saying), using SiLabs Add-On for Thread networking is still in the early stages and it can be difficult to get working. I would only recommend it if one is using it to experiment with and willing to spend a lot of time trying to figure it out.

I spent a lot of time and i see no chance getting it to work.

And i see nothing i could change so it would.
And no one seems to be able to tell what could be changed.

And people on here say they just connect it and it works.

I am now trying to enlarge my existing zigbee network to the room i need the devices and go that way.
When thread/matter needs years to get the simplest things running i can say that my life will be to short to wait for that.

Bought an Aqara Zigbee Plug.
Bought 2 Aqara Zigbee Door/Window sensors.

Now it works what i wanted to achieve and i am happy.

No necessity for technologies that dont work and never will.

I had this exact problem (Aqara D&W Sensor P2, Home Assistant Yellow). I tried everything. I kept trying everything and the sensor finally connected to Home Assistant after approximately 20 attempts. My second sensor took another 20 attempts over a few days but finally connected. My order of operation was:

  1. Connect Sensor P2 to Google Home (Nest Wifi Pro Border Router)
  2. Add Matter Device in Home Assistant app on my Android phone

I believe this is a Home Assistant issue because the sensor connects to Google Home instantly and reliably. Good luck to others attempting this, It needs to improve before I buy more sensors.

I tried removing and reinstalling apps, restarting HA, praying to several gods, and success (I think) is attributed only to perseverance.

yep that works when you got Google Home,
when you cant do it with google home first, it wont work.

I sold mine and got back to the things that work.

I dont think i will buy a matter device anymore. Its dead before it even started.
