Unable to pair Zooz ZSE42 Z-Wave Water Sensor - In Long Range mode

After factory resetting the ZSE42 using the manufacture’s instructions below, I use my phone to add a device by scanning it’s DSK (QR) code. I ensure “Long Range” is selected then click “Add device”. However, after trying this with 3 different devices, they are always paired in Z-Wave Plus mode, not Long Range.

How can I pair this device in long rage mode?

-Thanks

  1. Make sure the sensor is powered.
  2. Click the Z-Wave button twice and hold it the third time for 10 seconds. The LED indicator will blink continuously.
  3. Once the LED becomes solid, within 3 seconds, click the Z-Wave button twice more to finalize the reset.
  4. The LED indicator will flash 3 times to confirm a successful reset.

Have you tried this?

“While the hub is looking for new devices, click the Z-Wave button
3 times as quickly as possible. The LED indicator will start flashing to confirm inclusion mode and turn off once inclusion is completed.”

Thanks, tried this and still not pairing. I tried a second time as you described, then while the hub was looking for new devices pressed the button about every 10 seconds. I’ve also read that you need to keep the device awake while sarching.

The way I did it is to start the inclusion process in HA and then activate the sensor. That has worked for me. I have 3 of these sensors.

Yes, that’s what I did. Nothing. Now these devices were previously paired with a Hubitat. But resetting the device to factory defaults should work without unpairing from the Hubitat. I’ve paired dozens of devices formerly paired with a Hubitat without excluding it from the Hubitat first.

Have you tried this?

  • Remove the battery.
  • Start the inclusion process.
  • Put the battery back in.

I would do the factory reset once more and shut down the Hubitat just in case.

Thanks, I did try that. The Zooz documentation says to power off the device until “step 6”. I sent Zooz an email. After they recommended what I had already tried, they now want me to send them a video of the process. Strange!
