Unanswered card_mod question from closed 2025.1 release Blog

Continuing the discussion from 2025.1: Backing Up into 2025!:

Since the release blog was surprisingly closed before I reached the last post in it, I couldn’t post an answer to your question regarding card_mod.

so here’s my experience:
I was one of the first updaters to card-mod 3.5.0, which now is retracted, and had some issues with it (opened in the repo), but have now managed all of that, still on 3.5.0

however, this is not the recommended strategy for all…

so if you are still on 3.4.3, you will experience several incompatibilities with HA 2025.1

Thomas updated card_mod to 3.4.4, which fixes all of the changes (in fact it was only 1…) brought about by HA 2025.1

nothing should withhold you from updating.

But: updating either of them requires you to update both, as 3.4.4 is incompatible with HA 2024.x (because of that 1 single change), and HA 2025.x is incompatible with 3.4.3

on HACS:
none of the reported issues have been experienced in my setup. Not sure what brings people to say it was broken.

Albeit more brief, I did say to klogg to update to 3.4.4 on the release thread. I was brief, because the information was already available.

I don’t know why the issue affected only some installations, but mine was. It wasn’t related to 2025.1 though, as my HACS broke being on 2024.12.4. I think I posted a link to this on the release thread too. Basically, it had to do with listing the Music Assistant repo in HACS.

Just to add a happy ending, I upgraded everything and all appears to be working properly.
