Unifi device tracking large network questions

Evening All,

I am currently investigating a Ubiquity Unifi wireless network for work to replace our old Fortinet system. Currently we have 120 Aps but can see this rising to about 160. We will be running a VM for the controller. We have approx 800 devices connected at any one time.

My first question is can I track only a small handful of devices? I would only want to track IT team and possibly a handful of company mobiles and not overload HASS with all the others.

Secondly can it tell me to AP each device is currently connected to? I have always needed this feature as when sending staff out to jobs using the radios I don’t always know who’s best to attend a job but if I can very quickly see where on site each tech is it will help me to organise.

Kind Regards,
Max

Yes, you can control what entities are actively reported. AP Mac is listed in entity attributes (as long as they are Unifi APs)

HA reports “AP Mac”. With that it may be possible to track a device to location that’s based on the APs Mac Address

Sorry for asking in an old thread but this is the only one I found that references what I need.
I’m assuming this is the same Unifi Network integration that is now part of core.

I recently installed this on my testing instance of HA and as I suspected, it added a device tracker entity for every device on my network (a LOT). There doesn’t appear to be anyway to customize the device list via the UI. Is there away to only monitor a select list of devices?

There is a generic change to device tracker implementation Paulus made for next release. Wait to see if that improves your situation.

Will that change stop the Unifi Network integration from creating an entity for every device on my network?
That would seem to be more a function of the integration rather than a function of core…no?
