A few months ago I released an unofficial Google search skill - I’ve now released a new version that uses the official Google Assistant API. This offers broadly the same level of functionality as the Raspberry Pi Assistant, however there are some additional limitations around timers and casting due to the skill running in AWS. Full installation instructions are on my github page plus a link to a installation video (not produced by me).
This looks cool. I’m going to try and set it up in the next few days
Let me know if you have any problems
Between your documentation and the video it went smooth.
One thing that was weird and I wasn’t sure of was the priority of the lalya and paya… (i forget the names) servers. One seeming to be North America and one Europe. It didn’t seem to matter the order they were in but I did notice the latency to one was significantly less than the other.
I didn’t bother with the video, just went through the documentation.
It was all really thorough (idiot proof), easy to follow, and is working fine.
Thanks a lot for this!
The layla.amazon.com one is for the US the pitangui.amazon.com one is for the EU. I thought that the Skill builder would order these correctly for you depending on the language settings but it doesn’t so I’ll update the instructions.
I didn’t realise that. I used the first one but I’m in the UK, so I’ll change it over to the second one.
I didn’t realise it either! I had assumed that Amazon would put them in the correct order but apparently not - so sorry. It’s definitely quicker in the UK using pitangui
There is no easy way to do it?
That’s not your fault, don’t apologise
Anyway, I’ve changed it now.
I’ve tried to make installation as simple as possible but this is quite a complex thing in the first place!
This is excellent, took a while to work through but well worth the effort. Many thanks
