Update installation problem

So I am REALLY new to this and to my synology NAS that I bought and setup only a few weeks ago and please be gentle with me.

BUT… I have installed home assistant and I want to install HACS as well, however, my home assistant installation is from 2019. It tells me this when I attempt to use the bash command in the terminal window on home assistant when trying to install HACS. It says it should be 2024 i think it said.

However, I installed home assistant using a OVA file from this very website. That tells me the ova download file is old and perhaps someone should update it to the latest version?

However… HOW do i update home assistant first to the latest version (there is no indication its out of date and i see no way that i can update it in my container manager) and then I can install HACS which is ultimately what I want to do but cant do that until i get home assistant updated.

Please help me understand as I said, I am really very new to all this and especially a lifelong windows user, I am not very aware of the cmd line at all. :frowning:

Thanks for your help

You’d be better off installing HA as a Docker container rather than as a VM, particularly if you’re using a 7 year old image!

I have it installed in the docker and can you tell me how to update it as it says 2019, even though when downloading, i chose latest

Bizarre. What a mess this all is, surely it shouldnt be pulling a 2019 version!!!

I have now updated it!!! Took a while and a direct connection URL to enable me to do it. But I did it
