It seems like it’s still using the old limitlessled library. Did you install the fork using the source and pip?
Hi
I am very new to home automation and arduino development and Raps Pi. I installed Home Assistant using the AIO installer and so it is on a virtual machine as far as I can gather.
Please could you give some full instructions on how I install this fork in this situation. I would appreciate a step by step dummies guide if possible.
Thanks for all the hard work put in by people on this. I hope that I will be able to contribute in the future.
Regards
Laurie
I don’t know if someone will… this is still a development branch, it should not be used if you don’t know how to maintain/update/correct it…
You better wait for the final version, it will directly work and save everybody’s time.
I’m fine with the edits, it’s more installing the fork code. Something working will be better than nothing
Good work! I’ve two questions for the developers.
- Is the fork still too buggy to implement in the component?
- Is it possible to turn the lights ‘on’ and ‘off’ without fading? So the lightsetting that will be memorized by the lights itself will not be dimmed next time I turn the lights ‘on’ with an electrical switch? Maybe it’s possible to make a configurations variable for the component to turn this feature off and on.
Hi - I was piecing things together from this link - Update Limitlessled/Milight Component V6 Bridge (iBox)
And I updated the python limitles led files and I made the manual adjustments mentioned in one of the links on the subject and I think I have royally ball’s it up. I dont think I installed a fork but I do have pip.
Being a n00b I am just learning how to use this as it is a bit more developer centric than my brain is currently but I will get there. Nothing really feature rich to use is ever really easy, which is how I prefer it : slight_smile:
I might be better off running this on droid or a Raspbian sbc and installing a final edit to make sure I dont waste your time
P
Hi,
I ordered the new V2 hub with a LED controller (ww/cw). With my phone I can control the light but I can’t get it working with HASS.
This is what I added to my config file:
light:
platform: limitlessled
bridges:
- host: 192.168.2.10
version: 6
port: 5987
groups:
- number: 1
name: Room1
type: white
And I also changed :/srv/homeassistant/homeassistant_venv/lib/python3.4/site-packages/homeassistant/components/light/limitlessled.py with:
DEFAULT_LED_TYPE = 'rgbw'
DEFAULT_PORT = 5987
DEFAULT_TRANSITION = 0
DEFAULT_VERSION = 6
LED_TYPE = ['rgbw', 'white', 'rgbww', 'bridge-led']
But when I restart HASS I get an error: Invalid config.
I tried everything but I can’t solve. Has anyone had the same issue?
The latest version (v6) that you want to use is not yet supported by the python library used by hass to control limitlessled device.
You need to install this fork: https://github.com/soldag/python-limitlessled
Changing the limitlessled is not enough.
If it doesn’t work you need to work that a new version of the library is published, and then home-assistant will be updated to that new library.
Sorry I forgot to mention that I also did that with
pip install limitlessled
Can I check some things to debug?
pip install limitlessled will just confirm that the standard limitlessled module is installed.
At best change the version of the limitlessled module in the source and in hass, to be sure you’re using the fork
Okay, I cloned the repo and installed it. But It did not change anything. Still this message.
Is there a way I can check if I installed it correcty or something?
Did you change the version?
Thank you for your help so far.
I didn’t change the version and I don’t know how I can do that. Can you describe it to me? Do you think this would work?
Hi,
I reinstalled HASS. And I think I installed the fork correctly and changed the version. The improvement is that I can see a switch in my dashboard, no errors. But the switch doesn’t work yet. I tried to figure out what happens. With wireshark I sniffed on port 5987 (also 8899), but no traffic. I do see the right traffic when I use the testsoftware of limitlessled on windows and when I use the android app.
So it seems that HASS is not sending anything. Is there a log file or a way to debug the limitlessled script?
What do you see when you track the log of home-assistant?
Do you mean the /home/homeassistant/.homeassistant/home-assistant.log? That doesn’t show anything.
Edit:
Okay, I added logger: to my settingsfile. This is the output:

Restart and check the log again. Problem are likely to appear when limitlessled module is initialized
Try first with the bridge-led in group 1 to see if you can control the bridge.
Okay, the problem is that I have a bridge without a LED, just a gateway.
This is my log when I restart

I installed the fork, which worked. Then I decided to update to 0.36, and now limitlessled doesn’t work at all. The lights don’t show up, but there also aren’t any errors… Could I just re-install HASS without losing my .homeassistant folder and configurations?
You might have to reinstall the fork. I’m using v0.36 with limitlessled v6 without problem.
You can reinstall HASS, you only need to save the yaml data (configuration, know_device, plex, …) from .homeassistant. deps folder is not needed.
Of course you’ll have to reinstall the fork and change the component again.
