I’m running HA on a rpi4 and tried doing an update to 2025.1 the other day. Since then, it’s pretty much been stuck saying it’s upgrading the database. I’ve left it for days at this point and eventually gave up and tried powercycling the rpi to see if that would help. It didn’t and just keeps coming back to the upgrading db screen.
I’m trying now to figure out what went wrong and how I’m able to either repair or restore things. I have the SMB addon installed but unfortunately it doesn’t appear to be loaded to a state where I can access any files to grab the backup I told HA to make in upgrading. I have the ssh addon installed but it seems to use different credentials than what I use to log into the dashboard, and I’m an idiot and didn’t save them in 1password. So I haven’t been able to log in to a CLI and view any logs, make any tweeks, or again grab the backup I had it make.
I’ve had an SD card fail on me in the past so it boots and runs from an external SSD. I’ve had no luck mounting that on either Windows or macOS so far to extract anything. Windows recognized enough to see some boot partition and “overlay” folder, but that doesn’t seem familiar to me at all. It’s been several years since setting this up, and past updates I’ve been hands off and out of the loop.
I’d really prefer not starting over from scratch and losing everything. I did have it backup prior to the upgrade but I can’t even manage that. It’s not seemed like other people are having this upgrade just get hosed on them like this.
Any thoughts or recommendations on how I can either get this up and running again or properly access the data to restore my backup would be super appreciated!
