I’m new to HA. I downloaded an img file about a month ago, flashed it to an SD card and used it to turn my RPi 3 into a HA hub. It worked fine. About a week ago I realized there was an update for both OS and HA available. I started with the OS. However, after starting the OS update the RPi became unresponsive. I tried downloading the latest HA (I tried both 64 and 32 bit versions) and reflashed the SD card. When restarting the RPi I can see both the red power LED and the flashing green LED on the RPi but the RPi never appear on my network (cable connected) and since I have no way of interfacing with the RPi except through network I am unable to get any information from it. The latest version of HA simply does not seem to work.
Unfortunately, I don’t have the img file I originally used (which worked). Is there any way of accessing older versions of HA img files? Since the latest version doesn’t work (for whatever reason) I would like to try an older version to see if that makes any difference.
That’s what I mean by not appearing on my network, my router does not show the RPi so I can’t figure out what ip to use (if any). By rummaging through the jungle of old cables I managed to locate an hdmi-dvi cable which allowed me to connect an old display to the RPi. It seems to boot up and I am able to login. However, no normal Linux commands seem to work. I can’t change directory or even list contents. I am able to display the console help but all attempts to use any of the commands only result in the help being displayed again.
I managed to figure out that I was not in regular console mode and could go to console mode by using the ‘login’ command. I now have access to regular Linux console. However, the ‘ifconfig’ command is not available so I can’t find out if I have network access. The boot up log flashed a message saying network could be found but my router still does not include the RPi among the connected devices.
Unfortunately, the keyboard layout is not my local layout so I am unfamiliar with the location of some essential characters which makes navigating a bit more complicated that usual.
I don’t know how or why but I tried replacing the network connection with another device (both the RPi and the other device was working fine before I started messing with the HA update) and now the HA RPi seems to have gotten a network connection. Let’s see if it manages to start up after the initial auto-update.
