hoping it will be more reliable than my RPi3 setup. I don’t have that many devices nor that many automations, but it seems as if I might be over some sort of limit for the RPi3. (One of the giveaways is that I have to use HA to reboot itself nightly or automations start to fail.)
Anyway, I’m wondering if there’s an easy way to migrate one to the other.
Is it as simple as doing a backup on the old and then restoring it to the new? That seems too simple to be true …
LOL, I can understand that statement when It comes to HA, BUT I do believe it’s almost that simple. You may have to deal with any devices or paths that are used between the too.
Thanks to all! It really was that simple, and I’m kinda amazed.
I booted up the new unit, found it on the network and opened the web page. That page was asking me for an ID and password, to create an initial account.
But down at the bottom was a link to “Restore from backup”, so that’s what I did; Backup, download TAR file to PC, upload to new device, Restore and … magic!
BTW, there is an enormous difference between the RPi3 and the ODROID, enormous. The RPi was a way to dip my feet into the home automation thing, but it didn’t really give me an accurate picture of what Home Assistant was capable of. With the RPi, HA kinda felt like a toy. With the badder hardware, it now feels like a tool.
