It’s got to the point that it is literally impossible to pick an entity from a dropdown while editing the dashboards. Not with the old tricks (hold, slide…), not in any other way. I know there was a new UI framework a couple of HA releases ago that promised to fix this, but no, it’s only gotten worse.
I’m worried about the state of HA. New things are added left and right, but complete and utter basics like this are ignored for years. It’s not like iOS is a fringe platform. I’m on HA since 2018 and it has never not been an issue.
iOS (15.5), HA (2022.5.5) and the HA app (2022.3) are all fully updated. It’s the same in the HA app and any iOS browser.
Yes, I find similar issues. The way I would describe is that when I select an item on a list, often a different item is activated or none at all. TBH I sometimes see this in web interface on a PC as well. I find the most reliable option is to start typing the entity name and make sure it’s highlighted before I click it. When I do that it works.
The problem is there isn’t often a keyboard available on iOS.
A good way to demonstrate any issues is a short video.
Picking an area for an entity. Once you select it from the list, the keyboard drops away and the corresponding screen redraw cancels the selection. “Solution” make sure on screen keyboard is out of the way by using landscape or hardware keyboard.
Removing a specific device tracker from the person settings. Plain does not work. Drove me crazy as my home iPad forced itself into the list, breaking geofencing. PC to the rescue.
UI getting more and more unresponsive if the app runs longer. Workaround: force close app and all is smooth again.
Keyboard not showing up when it needs to when trying to edit. “Solution”: rotate iPad and back
Integration page not showing all the tiles but only the middle colums. Same rotate “fix” or page refresh.
Please file this as a bug report on Github if you haven’t already. Or I can do it and copy/paste your issues (I don’t usually edit on my iPad as its an old Air 2, too slow for this).
I think many issues like this are ignored as the developers usually use VSCode or a development environment like that for editing, or GUI on desktop OSes. But I don’t think editing on mobile is rare at all.
