Use Alexa to control automation

I have an automation which turns the kitchen light off after an hour. Occasionally the could be someone in the kitchen for longer. Its starting to annoy my Mrs and she wants a way to delay it from happening using Alexa.
So at 59 minutes, Alexa will say “The big kitchen light will turn of in 1 minute” she then shouts ‘no!’ but nothing happens. Is there a way to delay the light turning off with Alexa?
Thanks

Maybe a presence detection device would be a better solution?

What you are describing are called Actionable Notifications which are possible using a custom Alexa skill.

While there are times when actionable notifications are useful and even necessary, this isn’t a great pattern to use for things that can be sensed like motion and room presence.

5 cats and a dog prevent me from using a presence sensor or motion sensor. If it wasn’t for them, life would be much more simple

Have you considered incorporating vibration and/or door sensors as proxies for room occupancy?

Most people will habitually work in the same place in the kitchen, so mounting vibration sensor under the counter at those locations can help determine that someone is in the area. The same goes for adding sensors to the doors of the fridge and a couple of the most used cabinets or drawers.
