Yes, the Home Assistant Cloud is 100% optional. You are not required to use it.
If you want to use Google Assistant without Home Assistant Cloud, you can follow the steps in the Google Assistant Component Docs here: https://www.home-assistant.io/components/google_assistant/
You have to set it all up and maintain it yourself. That is what’s great about the Home Assistant Cloud is you don’t have to worry about maintaining anything.
Plus using Home Assistant Cloud, your also supporting the project which is a good thing.
ahh thanks ill give that a shot… is it still as hard and buggy as it was before? I tried it before HA Cloud was released and i got many errors on the google side.
It can be a little difficult but I had no real issues. Just have to follow the steps to the T and they work. Every once in a while something breaks either cause of an HA update or a Google Update.
I prefer the HA Cloud. $5/month to not have to worry and to help fund the program is good enough for me.
thanks… i just got it working, only thing is i cant seem to change the app name from “my test app” to anything else… any idea how to do that? (not a big deal really, just i prefer the google home app to look a little nicer…)
Now that google_assistant integration has been depreciated from Home assitant 105, is there any other way to keep using my 5x google homes to control Home assistant without paid option?
no it has not been depreciated
Eh? What do you think you’ve seen. Cause GA is not deprecated.
Sorry i read it wrong, google_assistant API key is the one depreciated. I was using this setup, hence when it broke I assumed google_assistant integration is depreciated and wasn’t aware of the service_account option.
Well, thankyou for waking me up and pointing in the right direction.
