I have used Hassos in a VM succesfully for at while now and NO i wont change that setup.
I have a few HUE lamps and an HUE Bridge (scuare) one and i understand that i can use my Zigbee stick to interact direktly with my HYE bulbs. Is this correct and do you recomment me doing this?
I’ve retired my Hue Bridge a long time ago and no regrets at all. The main thing, in my opinion, is the capability of connecting devices from almost any vendor.
I’m using ZHA (tried DeconZ first) with a Conbee II stick, but you probably will find something newer now days.
These i have unactivated but if i activade them and remove my Philips HUE hub will i be able to control the bulbs directly with Zigbee then?
And if so how do i connect them?
I have nor removed my Philips Hub and i’m triung to control my Hue bolbd with only Zigbee
I have a USB Dresden Elektronik ZigBee gateway and i find it a bit hard go grasp how i should configure it. I get som trird party page that i dont understand. please adwise or do i have the wrong type of Zigbee stick?
You can remove the bulbs from your Hue Bridge using the Hue App in your phone, then the bulbs will be on pairing mode. You can then open the Zigbee interface on Home Assistant and click “Add device” and the magic happens.
As I mentioned, you will have to pair the bulbs with your new Zigbee coordinator in Home Assistant, then you control the bulbs directly in HA.
You are using DeconZ. I’ve tried it in the past, it’s great, but later I’ve migrated to ZHA, which is native to Home Assistant… Maybe you should start from there…
Just go on your Add-ons page and remove DeconZ, then in the integrations page try to add Zigbee…
Don’t buy another device. The one you have is likely compatible with ZHA, which you can double check at this zigbee compatibility matrix.
Anyways, don’t spend money of your device is not ZHA compatible. Just stay at DeconZ in that case.
I liked more the ZHA, but a lot of people here loves Zigbee2MQTT and DeconZ is probably the third one. They are different, each one with advantages and disadvantages. In my personal experience I liked ZHA more than DeconZ, but I never tried Z2MQTT.
I’m typing from my phone now, but I will send more detailed steps (if I still can remember) on how to migrate when I get home…
Só, before I go, remember you will be rebuilding your Zigbee network entirely, which means you will have to reset each of your devices and pair again with the new controller. Usually this is not a big issue, but can be some work if you have too many devices.
But basically, remove all the devices from your existing Zigbee controller, then in Home Assistant go to Settings / Add-ons and select the DeconZ add on. Then click on Remove to remove it.
Restart Home Assistant (just in case) and then open Settings, Devices and Services, then click to add a new integration, then look for Zigbee Home Automation (ZHA). Then is just about following the steps to install it.
When you have that running, click in config and then Add device, put your devices in pairing mode and the magic will happens.
Great, then i wont hopefully piss you off time wise
I’ve checked the ZHA Ha site and my stick is the one in top of working devices so so far so good.
I also like to keep my HA as “clean” as possible so i havent messed around with Zigbee2MQTT or Node Red and other “above my skill” stuff.
I have ablolutly nothing connected do my Zigbee stick so the Hue Lamps will be the first items. I will now down load ZHA and try my best to figure this out to get my 4 lamps working.
Off course i want a future proof zigbee set up but for now i just want to get my HUE lamps up and running and be able to turn them on/off with scenes and automations
@EdwardTFN hi man, sorry to bother you again but i feel im closing in on sitting in total darkness
I use an Unraid Docker app for manageing USB and i really like it. In the unraid VM page i dont check any usb i just attache them here and it works great fior my Goocle Coral and my Z-Wave stick but my Dresnen Zigbee stick wont attach.
I have read that the recommended way is to attache it with:
Hi @Peter_Carlsson, I’m afraid we are getting into an area where I won’t be able to help that much. Maybe you will get better results if you create a new thread specifically for this topic and hopefully we get someone else jumping at this quickly. I’m sure other people have a similar setup as what you are trying to do.
By the way, I understood from your early message that your USB stick was already available at Home Assistant, but using deCONZ… Isn’t that the case?
